Course Description:
M.Sc. in Information Technology is a three semester (18 months) part-time degree programme consisting of a common Information core, and a compulsory research project. In order to obtain the MSc in Information Technology your are required to gain 48 credits. One credit is equivalent to one hour of lectures or other classroom activity per week for one semester of approximately 14 weeks duration, or two hours of practical or project work per week for one semester of approximately 14 weeks duration.

Course Structure:

The Post Graduate Diploma is of 12 months (part time) duration while MSc is of 18 months duration (part time). Post Graduate Diploma in Information Technology and MSc in Information Technology offer common curricula. Lecturers will be held during weekends. Those who satisfy this criterion at the end of the first year would be able to select one of the following two options:

(a) Continue for the MSc in Information Technology

(b) Exit the programme with a Post Graduate Diploma

Those who continue to follow MSc in Information Technology will need to follow a Research Project of 06 months duration.

Eligibility Requirement:

Candidates applying for the MSc. in Information Technology shall have:

An Honours degree from university of Moratuwa with a minimum of one year of appropriate experince as may be approved by the senate;
OR
A four year degree from a recognized university with a minimum of one year of appropritate experince as may be approved by the senate;
OR
A three year degree from a recognized university with a minimum of two years of appropritate experince as may be approved by the senate;
OR
Any recognized category of membership of a recognized professional institute,obtained through an academic route, with a minimum of two years of recognized appropriate experince gained after obtaining the membership, as may be approved by the senate;

The Master of Business Administration specialized in Project Management which we offer is a six semester (two year) part-time post graduate degree programme consisting of compulsory modules, elective modules and a compulsory research project.
The Post Graduate Diploma in Project Management is a four semester (approx. 15 months) part-time programme consisting of compulsory modules, elective modules.
Each semester consists of 14 weeks.

Lectures will be held from 5.30 pm – 8.30 pm Tuesdays & Thursdays at IESL and from 9.00 am – 7.15 pm on Saturdays at the University of Moratuwa.

The above postgraduate course is expected to commence in January 2012.

ELIGIBILITY:

• Any other recognized degree in a relevant field accepted by the Faculty and approved by the Senate,

• The Associate Membership, Graduateship (as appropriate) or equivalent of a recognized professional institute in a relevant field

• The Associate Membership, Graduateship (as appropriate) or equivalent of a recognized professional institute in a relevant field
AND
a minimum of one year of appropriate experience after obtaining such membership, acceptable to the Faculty and approved by the Senate,
AND
• Relevant experience after having obtained the qualifications mentioned above.
