Master of Science/Post-Graduate Diploma in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution

This course is designed for construction industry professionals to gain extensive knowledge in Construction Law & Dispute Resolution, while adopting a broad generic approach. The Course is conducted by a team of highly experienced university lecturers and professionals in the industry.
Eligibility requirements:
Persons applying for the Post Graduate Diploma in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution leading to Master of Science in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution should have one of the following.
(a) The Honours degree of Bachelor of Science in Quantity Surveying, University of Moratuwa AND
a minimum of one year experience after obtaining the degree, OR
(b) The Honours degree of Bachelor of Science in Facilities Management, University of Moratuwa AND a minimum of one year experience after obtaining the degree, OR
(c) The Honours degree of Bachelor of Architecture, University of Moratuwa AND a minimum of one year relevant experience after obtaining the degree, OR
(d) The degree of Bachelor of Built Environment, University of Moratuwa AND a minimum of two years relevant experience after obtaining the degree, OR
(e) The Honours degree of Bachelor of Science in Town and Country Planning, University of Moratuwa AND a minimum of one year relevant experience after obtaining the degree, OR
(f) The Honours degree of Bachelor of Science in Engineering, University of Moratuwa AND a minimum of one year experience after obtaining the degree, OR
(g) Any other four years honours degree from a recognized university with a minimum of one year relevant experience after obtaining the degree. The degree shall be recognized by the faculty and approved by the senate. OR
(h) Any other three years degree from a recognized university with a minimum of two years relevant experience after obtaining the degree. The degree shall be recognized by the faculty
and approved by the senate. OR
(i) A voting membership of a recognized professional institution in a relevant field AND a minimum of two years experience after obtaining membership. The acceptability of the professional qualification of the candidate, the recognition of the institution and the relevancy of the field for this purpose shall be judged by the Faculty and approved by the Senate.

Application forms and other relevant information may be collected by sending a self addressed stamped envelop of 100x225 mm in size to Prof. (Mrs) Chitra Wedikkara, Course Co-ordinator, Department of Building Economics, University of Moratuwa, Moratuwa.

All duly filled applications, along with a paying-in-voucher for Rs. 1,000/- drawn in favour of University of Moratuwa Account No. 306836 obtained from Bank of Ceylon as application processing fee shall reach the Department of Building Economics. Duration of the Course :
Postgraduate Diploma in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution is a three semesters part-time
course consisting of sixteen compulsory modules including project study.
M.Sc. in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution is a five semesters part-time course consisting of eighteen compulsory modules including research dissertation.
Course Content :
Construction Procurement, Construction Industry ,Contracts Administration, Claims Management, Legal Systems & Method, Business Law & Practice, Law of Contracts, Law of Torts, Planning and Environmental Law, Law of Property, Health, Safety and Welfare Law, Sources of Disputes and Analysis, Alternative Dispute Resolutions Methods & Practice, Construction Arbitration , Skills of Negotiation; Mediation, Project Study, Research Methodology, Research Dissertation.
Course Fees :
The Course fee for the first year (Post Graduate Diploma) is Rs. 100,000/= and Rs. 50,000/= for the second year (M.Sc). The registration fee for the per semester is Rs. 5,000/=. In addition, a refundable deposit of Rs. 2,500/= (for library facilities) and an examination fee of Rs. 500/= is payable at the registration.
